I do not want to suggest in any way that ADD is not a serious disorder and/or that prescription drugs have not proved very helpful to many who have received an accurate ADD diagnosis. However, with some 5% of school children being labeled with an attention deficit diagnosis these days, I find the rush to a medicated solution a little frightening.

It's not only Cylert that provides cause for worry. The most common treatment for ADHD is the controversial drug Ritalin, which has been linked to drug-induced behavioural disorders, psychosis, mania, drug abuse, and addiction.

I am not an expert on these issues, and from what I have seen, few people are. As with most disability issues, the burden falls once again on the shoulders of parents. So, to each and every caring parent out there: please, please, please do your own research on this topic, get a second, third, and fourth opinion, and don't be rushed into a decision you are not ready to make.
