I also told her that now she knows the true secret of Christmas. I reminded her that she had told me that her favorite part of Christmas was in watching others open the gifts she selects. I then told her that she has become Santa herself now. I explained to her that her belief in Santa is no longer a childlike belief, but an adultlike belief. That now she can enjoy Christmas EVEN MORE because she can see that the Christmas spirit is about giving. I have learned in my 8 short years of motherhood, that sometimes I say the right things and sometimes I say the wrong things. Tonight, as my daughter and I sat on her quilt covered bed and talked about Santa Claus I realize that there really is a Santa Claus, because he gave to me the correct words. I knew that I had used the correct words when my daughter clutched last year's special Christmas doll a little closer and snuggled down into her bed with a smile on her face.
