One child....I used to know....
out that the boy Jeff had hit was a football player and the boy's parents were getting a lawyer and wanted Jeff expelled from school.
I got a chance to talk to Jeff about all of this alone. He told me that the football player had made fun of his girlfriend. So he had been angered and pulled his club out of his back pack and started hitting him. The football players face has going to need reconstructive surgery.
Jeff was expelled from school. I saw him two other times after that. Once he came into my classroom to see me and was caught by the vice principal and ushered off school grounds.
A year later I saw Jeff again. He had just been let out of jail after being involved in a breaking and entering. He had a check for 15.00 in his hand and had no idea how to cash it. He wanted me to show him how to have a check cashed. He also wanted to know if I would teach him math. He had a math book with him. I helped him all I could that day. I never saw Jeff again.
By my computer I have a little newspaper clipping. It reads, hispanic male, age 21, found dead......
