Special Gifts for Special People....

Dec 11, 2000 - © Mary Pantazis

At this time of year we are all out scurrying around looking for the perfect gifts for everyone on our lists. Perhaps there is someone on your list who is in a wheelchair.

Clothing for people in a wheelchair often needs to be adapted to make the item easier to put on so that the person in the chair can maintain independence and dignity.

Here is a link to a place on the web that will give you some clothing ideas for your wheelchair bound friends. The website will also give you other links to some other places to purchase clothing for people with special needs.

Little girls, and big girls love dolls. I have some little friends in my life with Downe's Syndrome and I am so pleased with the company Downi Creations that is making lovely dolls with the features of Downe's Children. What a wonderful way to help to create acceptance of Downe's Syndrome. With the dolls they also offer information for teaching about Downe's Syndrome. I highly recommend that you check these out.

Here is a link for their website.

The online world has opened up such wonderful doors for people with special needs, and for their caretakers and advocates. When I first began teaching it took months of research to find items that we needed. Now we can find them at the click of a mouse. There are so many ideas you can get if you are looking for a gift for a person with special needs just by using a search engine.

Even if you are not looking to purchase an item for someone it will truly amaze you the products that are available to help disabled people to become more independent and maintain their dignity.
