Spanish Portal Sites

One way that people like to start their surfing voyages is through portal sites. These are sites that offer a wide variety of links that can start the surfer on his or her way. They are updated throughout the day and have some of the latest news available to its readers.

Needless to say there are portal sites available in Spanish. Most English portals as well can be viewed in Spanish as well. The list I have put here are portals that are Spanish language sites. They may be translated into English, but they were first written in Spanish by Spanish-speakers. These are great places to practice your Spanish skills as well as learn about the Hispanic culture.

What will you find on a portal site? Most of these sites have the following features: late-breaking news, chats, polls, e-mail, sports news, finance information, horoscopes, shopping, weather, entertainment, downloads, and other articles of interest. Some may even have auctions, on-line games, and software picks.

"http://www.terra.com" - is the first on-line starting point I checked out. It has a huge variety of news links on many different subjects.

"http://www.univision.com" - This TV station's web site has become a great portal. There are links to all kinds of information ranging from immigration to the kitchen to money and to education. Of course there are special Univision sections such as "Los chismes del gordo" and "Premio lo Nuestro". One interesting section is the WebNovela (found in the Telenovelas section) called Besos Ardientes or Salsa Kiss. Periodically a new chapter is added to the site.

"http://www.todito.com" - This portal is a partner of TVAzteca - Mexico City's main TV station. There is lots of news (especially of interest in Mexico City). This site has auctions (although I wonder how easy it is to carry out the transactions internationally). Also, you can watch excerpts of many of TVAzteca's shows.

"http://www.quepasa.com" - This site is similar to Terra. It has many jumping points for surfers to start their journey.

I hope that these sites can get you interested in exploring portal sites. They offer many links that could easily keep you surfing for hours! Have fun and happy surfing!
