Few places in Spain offer as wide a variety of places to eat and drink as that found in Madrid. Here you can try some of the dishes from just about every region in Spain. Further, you will also find a large selection of various types of food from other lands as well.
The prices vary from expensive to economical so every person’s budget is taken into account. These are just some of the fine establishments you will find in Madrid whilst searching for a place to satisfy your appetite and quench your thirst. Expensive restaurants Zalacain: This restaurant is located at Calle Alvarez de Baena 4 and is reputed to be one of Madrid’s finest establishments. It is also listed amongst one of Europe’s best restaurants! El Mentidero de la Villa: At Calle Santo Tome 6, this place boasts a romantic atmosphere matched by excellent food and service. Moderate restaurants Taberna de Antonio: Here you will find typical madrileño meals. It is located at Calle Meson de Paredes 13, and the stews here are especially worth sampling! La Bodeguita del Caco: At Calle Echegaray 27 you will find a large assortment of dishes with a Carribean influence. If you like fish with coconut, this is the place for you! Budget restaurants La Vascongada: Located at the Plaza Vazquez de Mella 10, this establishment may look like a very ordinary place on the outside, but its huge popularity proves otherwise. Everyone that comes here says that the food is excellent. A three course meal with wine is very affordable! La Granja: This restaurant specialises in vegetarian dishes. It is located at Calle San Andres 11 and the menu features such items as polenta and baked courgettes. Bars and cafes There is always a café close at hand as you stroll through the streets of Madrid. Some are very ancient in design and are no more than a hole in the wall, while others are chic boulevard cafes where you can go to discuss the latest movies and modern art. All offer a fine range of Spanish tapas. This is just a small sample of what you will find when you get there. Café Gijon: Located at Paseo de Recoletos 21, this place dates back to 1888 and as such is steeped in history. It is cosy and nostalgic, and is very popular with writers and anyone who wishes to engage in interesting conversation. Nuevo Café Barbieri: At Calle Ave Maria 45 is this lovely old café.
