New Mexico Deserts, Mountains, Rivers - Paradise

When we were finally able to find the outfitters at the rock climbing school we had contacted, there was just enough daylight to get us up and back. As I mentioned before, neither Bryan nor I are especially competent on peaks, and the toughest thing we'd ever handled had been New Hampshire's White Mountains. Palomas proved to be a touch easier than we had expected, but still a grueling couple hours. I have the uncanny ability to miss even the most obvious foothold and instead go out of my way to use an obscure one six or seven feet away. Ah, good times. Overall, this was by far the best day I'd spent outdoors this year. Albuquerque has an amazing variety of things to do, and great weather to allow you to do it all. And, need I mention, a guide named Gomer. As Bryan and I board the planeback to New York, we look back and can only hope that we'll have more days like this, in a place like this... there's literally so much to do, and not nearly enough time in which to do it. Some day.
