On one long, physically-demanding expedition a friend simply brought Chocolate-Covered Expresso Beans. Now THAT is an inspired idea. Each day I begged like a puppy for a few of those tiny beans. What a rush! This is a great option if you're lucky enough to find them. These things will melt together in the heat...but so what? Break the big chunks apart with a rock. Eat them in bliss. Experience an altered reality. And finally, skip the concept of coffee entirely. Use packets of hot cocoa. Or bring a Nalgene full of M-n-M's. Obviously for a backpacking journey a coffee sock, melita method or coffee bags will suffice. When you're car camping you can carry all the gear you desire. Try the French Press! Or make up your own brewing procedure. Write me a note and tell me what methods you use in the field! In the meantime, I'll be at my favorite downtown coffeehouse...
