Like a hole in the head: taking on another sport

Unfortunately, this activity inevitably lends itself to sampling a race or two. That’s where it starts. With a local 5k somewhere. Then a 10k. I found myself looking around for more, maybe out of town, thinking about training more…my simple trail running activity grows out of proportion while the rock hardware cries in my closet.

But the biking I should have reconsidered before I got hooked. Bikes take up a lot of space, are messy (all that chain grease), and require associated paraphernalia. I am getting out so often on the mountain bike that I dream of possessing a road bike too. I get annoyed each time I have to change over knobbies to road slicks and back again to knobbies. I really don’t need to lug around two bikes in this lifetime, but I can see from the writing on the wall that it’s coming. It’s coming. I feel sorry for my other gear…
