Stoneman Lake Lodge Retreat

The lodge has dog runs emerging from the rooms themselves, so Flagstaff dog lovers can bring their pooches. Very few bed and breakfast joints in northern Arizona allow dogs under any circumstances, so this is a boon for canines and their travelers.

The first runs were installed in June, and Westlake says the dog rooms were an immediate hit. "The Wolves' Lair is booked through August," she says. "The Homestead Room is great for smaller, less aggressive pooches, and people are always asking when we will have more runs. We are still working on a run for the Big Cat Room, but the fenced-in area in front of the Bunkhouse is nearly finished, so that will be the other dog-friendly zone."

When you go: The lodge is 9 miles east of I-17 from the Stoneman Lake exit (306),the first exit north of the Sedona exit and south of Munds Park. Call for information at 480-239-0254, or see www.stonemanlakelodge.com.
