Looking For a Little Solitude

So, if you can get the weather forecast, which is easy to do on the internet, and can make plans two or three days in advance, you can enjoy the beach at any time of year. Since there are fewer people vacationing in the off months, getting a room is not a problem. As an added bonus, rates are significantly lower, too.

If you feel a trip to the beach is just not the same if you can't swim, try late April to mid-May, or September after Labor Day. Again, it can be either chilly or nice and warm at those times, but if you're flexible and can watch the weather forecast, chances are good that you can find warm weather.

So, bottom line: When do you go to the beach for maximum enjoyment? Any time you possibly can! When do you go for maximum private space? The farther from off-season, the better.

Next time: Are there places where you're more likely to enjoy the Gulf Coast in peace? Absolutely, and I'll tell you about some of them. We'll also talk about--for those of you who don't already know--what to do at the beach besides swim and sun.
