A Second Guided Journey to Try

© Cheryl D. Tracy

The idea behind this column is to teach about journeys and to give you some practical experience as well. Below is a guided journey. You can read the meditation over several times to become familiar with it and then do the actual meditation. Or you can simply visualize the journey while you are reading.

Take your time with this meditation journey. Try to involve as much of your conscious awareness as you possibly can. Remember that you don't have to do it all now. You can do it in bits and pieces, or all at once.

Relax your shoulders by letting them drop down away from your ears. You'd be surprised how many people have their shoulders hunched up without even being aware of it. Have both feet on the floor or ground and, as you settle down, Sigh as though you've come to the end of a long, long day. Work is over and, at last, you have a few minutes to yourself.

Relax even more by taking slower, deeper breaths. You can breath in through your nose and out through your mouth if you want to, but that really isn't necessary unless you want it to be. Breath quietly for a few cycles, then sigh once more and notice the tension drop out of your body.

Picture, in your mind, a special place in nature. It might be a place you've been to, or it might be something that springs into being only in your mind. Take a few minutes to see this place. Really study the area. Walk around. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Touch things. Lift your nose to the air and inhale. Do you smell anything? Are there flowers or other life forms? Is there water near by? The ocean? A lake? What do you hear? Are you alone?

How are your senses functioning? Can you see, hear, feel, touch, smell, and taste things normally? Does one of your senses work better than the other? Which? Does one of your senses seem to have abandoned you? Which? See if you can activate that sense somehow. Play with each of your senses, making it more, then less functional.

Relax into this place. As you explore, feel yourself becoming more and more comfortable in this special place. Close your eyes and see if your senses change in any way. Focus all your attention on your feet and try to feel the energy of the Earth through them.
