Test Run for the Inner Landscape

Sep 24, 2001 - © Cheryl D. Tracy

You can read this over a few times to get it clear in your memory and then do it, or you can simply choose to relax your body and mind and let your imagination take over as you are reading.

Relax your shoulders by letting them drop down away from your ears. You'd be surprised how many people have their shoulders hunched up without even being aware of it. Have both feet on the floor or ground and, as you settle down, sigh as though you've come to the end of a long, long day.

Relax even more by taking slower, deeper breaths. You can breath in through your nose and out through your mouth if you want to, but that really isn't necessary unless you want it to be. Breath quietly for a few cycles, then sigh once more and notice the tension drop out of your body.

Picture, in your mind, a large tree. It can be any kind of tree you want it to be. This tree is huge. It's branches go so far up into the sky that you can't see the top of the tree. And it's roots are so thick and vast that some of them roll along the top of the ground reaching far out around the base of the tree.

At the base of the tree is a hole. You might have to stoop to look into the hole. You might be able to walk right in as if you're entering a cave. Or you might have to use your imagination and shrink to find a way in. Do that now.

What does it smell like inside the tree? Reach over and touch a wall, feel the bark under your hand. Look at the ground, is it dirt, grass, or something else? Do you see any rocks or crystals sticking out of the ground?

Look around and notice that the tree has several other openings. Do these openings have doors or are they similar to the opening you entered the tree by? Go to each opening and look through it. Don't step through them yet, just look. One of the openings goes up, another goes down, and the last one seems to go nowhere. Can you hear anything if you listen at these doors?

There are other things inside the tree. Things that only you can see, hear, smell, and feel. Take a few minutes and explore the inside of the tree. Are you alone? Is someone there with you? Are there any animals or plants? Do you feel the need to clean up inside the tree or is everything neat and orderly?
