Guardians Along the Way

As you journey you're going to meet folks. Some are going to be friendly others are going to ignore you, and still others are going to be...well, less than friendly. Interacting with people on these levels is pretty much the same as it is in normal reality. Someone you instantly dislike might end up being you most trusted advisor. Someone you trust might later be revealed as treacherous. Not everyone will be helpful and some wont even want to give you simple directions -- sounds just like Maine, doesn't it? Take meetings in stride. Learn to be watchful. How people move, what they're carrying, and the way others react to them will tell you much. If someone offers you something to eat or drink and it feels dangerous or off to you, find a way to fake it or to refuse that will not provoke trouble. (you just ate, or you're on a fast as a condition of the journey, etc) Many of the folks you meet will be helpful in some way. They'll be able to give you directions to finding something or someone. They'll give you, or tell you where to get, supplies, or where to spend a night. Or they'll tell you places to go that are off the main paths where important information is. Some will give you tokens. This will be true especially if you have helped that person or village in some way. In return, you'll be given food, weapons, supplies, clothing, crystals, or even maps. Always accept gifts graciously and with thanks. If you meet animals or entities that block your path stop and think about things for a moment. Often being blocked on a journey means that you are not ready for that event yet. You own fears will manifest and block you. Or Guardians will stop you as a way of keeping you out of areas that you are not welcome or ready to travel in. If you force your way through, you are likely to get booted out of the journey on your ear and blocked from entering that area until the Guardian thinks you're ready or have earned the right to access. Generally, if you're blocked there's a reason for it. Take the time to retrace your steps to see if you've missed something. Or find someone, or something, to ask for help and suggestions. Journeys are rather like those interactive video games. There are traps and tricks that need to be learned a long the way. Think of this as earning points.
