Flowing with the Stream

  • Some paths will lead you sideways rather than forward, or so it may seem. As long as you're headed toward the sea, you're fine.

  • Don't stay in one place too long --don't let yourself get stuck. You may stay in a place to learn all you can there, but know that brain-learning is not the same as soul-learning. Listen to your heart, your gut, your soul to know when it's time to go.

  • Beware those who may try to sabotage your journey or lead you astray. Especially beware those who claim to know the one true path, for no path is right for all people. We each have our own journey, and though we may have companions, we cannot travel another's path, though we can make the journey easier for others and for ourselves by sharing what we feel.

  • Obstacles will appear in your path. You may think of them as tests, challenges, or opportunities. The way you approach them may well be the key to finding the next step in your path.

  • A map is a good tool to have, but maps come in many guises. Try books for a start. Ask for advice, perhaps even find a mentor. Most of all, learn to trust your gut.

  • Meditate. Let the water flow through and around you, and see what it has to tell you. Everything around you has a voice: the water, the road, the land, the trees, the creatures with whom we share the Earth. You have only to listen.

  • Don't neglect to pay attention to the scenery as you pass by. There may be a test at journey's end. Just remember that there is no one right answer. Simply pay attention. Listen. Set your soul free and let it flow.

It is not enough to learn about the process for finding your true path, for this process is not of the intellect. Too often, the mind grows, filling with bits of knowledge and wisdom -- some of it quite profound and weighty, perhaps even important.

Yet until you plunge into the stream with all your being and follow the flow, this knowledge is meaningless. It is only through conscious living that our souls grow.

Remember, too, that the answers and the map for your life-journey do not lie outside yourself. Even my words may be nothing more than illusion.
