Music News Today Vol. 7

I know I'm not alone in asking, where has the summer gone?! I've been caught up chasing down new music acts, trying to catch up with soul vets and attending concerts...and that's just my part-time job!

With my ear to the ground and my PC revved up to high speed, well medium actually, I could use an upgrade - in any case here are a few music bits for you:

* Kenny Lattimore and his wife, Chante Moore will be doing a duet CD. Very interesting! Although "Weekend" was a nice collection of Kenny's best - as usual it did not get the commercial or radio attention it deserved. You have to wonder how much longer people can sleep on this brother. Chante Moore enjoyed a little bit more commercial success with her last project, thanks in large part to the duet she did with Eric Benet, but she's underrated as well.

Well what happens when you put two powerful, but under acknowledged artists together? We're about to find out! They're not granting interviews yet, but your girl is trying to be among the first in line to get the scoop straight from the musical couples mouth. Stay tuned.

* I mentioned that I've been searching out new talent and boy did I luck up on a good find. Columbia Records is about to unleash the vocal talents of Vivian Green in October. This young lady has quite a voice on her. She's been opening for Maxwell during his summer tour and audiences are loving her flavor of soul, jazz and R&B. Be on the listen for her first single from "Love Story," and check back periodically, the article on this up and coming star from yours truly, will be live soon.

* Now this isn't "news" per se, but guess who is touring throughout the rest of this summer and fall? Mr. Luther "silky voice" Vandross! And that's not all - Angie Stone will be opening for him during most of the tour AND Gerald Levert is going to join on a few dates. Now that's a soul concert for yo' azz! Luther may be King of R&B/Soul Ballads and Gerald the crown prince, but Angie ain't no slouch and is by far the best choice to complement these two brothers. If you haven't run to Ticketmaster to see if they're in your backyard yet..what are you waiting for?

* You know I've been keeping up with American Idol, but can it just end already? The good thing is, since each week the contestants have to sing a different type of music, it does go a long way to show their range. But at this point, those left are likely guaranteed some sort of record deal from someone whether they win or not, so its a little anti-climatic.
