Although Keys signed with Arista in '98, she followed Clive Davis to J-Records in '99. So she's obviously a smart business woman too, recognizing that Clive may likely take her talents to Whitney Houston-like heights.
'Songs' not only highlights Keys writing talents (Butterflyz, Fallin', Goodbye) but also showcases R&B/Soul heavy hitters behind the Keys talent including Brian McKnight and Issac Hayes. She even remakes one of my favorite Brian McKnight tracks "Never Felt This Way," as an interlude. This song is made especially for a pianist and though I'm used to hearing Brian's voice over the keys she does a good job. Keys shines brightest when the piano and her vocals are allowed to mingle fluidly. Over time, Alicia Keys will take her place with Patti and Anita as an R&B diva. For now I'm content with letting her music grow around her style because I think we're in store for a nice ride. Its been a long time since R&B has been represented so strongly by the sisters - but they're back baby! Go To Page: 1 2
