R&B Today Vol. 11It was a rough winter for me- the snow fell sporadically in the Baltimore-Washington metro area and never enough to shut anything down! I relied pretty heavily on music to get me through day after day of backups and crawling traffic. So who got me through the winter blahs and who can help blow a refreshing breeze this summer? Winter & Beyond *Jill Scott still stands as the artist who brightened up this winter's gray and cloudy days. Finally, they've released another single from the CD, "The Way." Although current tour dates with Sting only go through last week - watch out for Jill to take us through the summer with her made for chillin' poetic grooves. * Musiq took us from late summer to the present and the radio is still rocking his joints. His current "House of Blues" Tour rolls until early June. Also, the Soulchild will be hosting MTV2's "Soul Show" - dates TBA - with Steph Lover, a radio personality familiar to those of us in the DC area. I was wondering where she was! *Tamia was shortchanged. Her CD "A Nu Day" did yield the hit, "Stranger In My House," but there were other certified jams on that project that never saw the light of day. "Can't Go For That" got some play, but not enough for such a sharp dance track. If you haven't already, check her out. "Can't No Man," "Tell Me Who" and her remake of Debarge's "Love Me In A Special Way" make it worth backtracking for this one. Summer Breeze *This isn't much of a prediction - but Janet will definitely be a big musical force this summer. With the pending Tour and an album that sold more than 600,000 copies in its first two weeks, she is going to be one of summer's musical darlings. *BabyFace is due to drop his latest project July 17. In a recent interview, Face admitted he was actually still pulling the project together. He has written so many songs for this one that he's still writing, recording and identifying what will make the cut. But with "There she goes" a legitimate hit already there's no need to panic - Face has given us a taste of whats to come. *Jaheim is my vote for summer sleeper. He crept up on us with "Could it Be." And though released late winter - the cut has summer jam written all over it! His latest release "Just in Case" only solidifies my belief that the heat from his sexy vocals will rival only the heat of summer. If you aren't familiar with this new artist, think Christopher Williams with an edge.
