State of Affairs

People are talking about...

* Arista Records publicity stunt involving Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez. It has left me with mixed feelings. As a PR professional I have to admire their crazy, gimmicky tactics. From the perspective of a fan, hearing that someone is missing, celeb or not, and not knowing if this could end up in tragedy - left me a little pissed that it was all a stunt. For those who still think she's really missing, check out Arista's website - she's not!

* The remix of Common's "The Light" with Erykah Badu. It proves that R&B and hip-hop will continue to thrive together as long as the artists keep it fresh.

* EUR reports that singer, Monica witnessed the suicide of her boyfriend earlier this summer. During the spring, singer, Mya revealed some of the hardships she had endured after her first successful CD, including dealing with her mother's fight with breast cancer. The ability for artists to handle such personal tragedies publicly and still turn themselves on to perform reminds us that each of us has their own personal cross to bear despite our status.

* Jill Scott - the soulful singer still has tongues wagging and heads nodding. As her two singles burn up the airwaves we're reminded that some people don't need publicity stunts to get attention!

* BET's move to NYC. I wish them success but don't understand why they're hatin' on DC so much. All this talk during their Harlem Block Party about how glad everyone is they no longer have to travel to DC makes me wonder if these artists have forgotten how phat the DC radio market is. They gotta come through Chocolate City sometime and maybe the love won't be here. And BET, how about showing some love for the city you called home for 20 years?!
