Soul Train: R&B's Home

Don Cornelius has always been a class act and Soul Train was every bit a reflection of his style. No host has matched his smooth, simple interviewing style or his understated coolness!

The popularity of MTV and BET as musical outlets has somewhat diminished the need for Soul Train. It was there for black artists when we were far and few between on mainstream dance shows, and though still popular, today the show is often on the late night roster or lost somewhere in the morning.

I'd like to see Soul Train go on forver because neither MTV or BET could ever replace it. It remains a part of African American culture and R&B/soul history and even if the show itself one day ceases to exist, it will never truly be forgotten.

One day many years from now when my daughter's kids are doing the soul line someone will have to remind them that it hales from a dance show - but thanks to cable we can point them towards syndicated re-runs as proof.

For now though, Soul Train is still running strong. It remains one of the most successful programs in first-run syndication and is among the longest running. And I take comfort in knowing that in some form it will be around with the host and the dancers wishing me, "Love, Peace and Soul!"
