Breakthroughs emerging this year in video-conferencing dwarf advances made in the past decade, especially as it relates to use by small and home businesses. Some products you may want to check out are:
- Microsoft's teleconference software - Netmeeting. This is an emerging solution for small virtual conferences over the Internet.
- MeetingPoint software created by White Pines uses Netmeeting as the client.
- Localnet, LLC, a new MLM company has created a $250 "black box" that connects the TV and telephone for a WebTV-type internet connection.
- First Class Communications, Inc., another new MLM company has a "black box" for teleconferencing over standard phone lines. Speed is 15 frames per second.
What has become evident at the conference is that cost for a full-up system has dropped to $2,000 - $4,000. The main limitation in video-conferencing is the substantial band width required. These breakthroughs combined with dropping costs and improved bandwidth on the Internet will open this technology to home businesses. Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com
