Poverty and Justice


She continued, “Every human being has a story which explains how they got where they are. Everyone makes mistakes, but when you’re living in poverty, one mistake can have devastating effects on your life and on that of your children.”

During the debate that followed the speakers, the question was asked: why most people remain unmoved by the poverty they see around them.

Christopher Lawrence-Pietroni said with feeling that it’s just too hard sometimes not to walk on by. “It’s about building human relationships,” he continued. “When you have a relationship it’s much more difficult not to see the other person as human. And when the realities of poverty are put to people, they are immediately shocked.”

“We can put an end to poverty,” Moraene Roberts insisted. “It’s a huge task, we can do it, but only if we all work together.”
