We the People - From the preamble of the UN Charter, 1945if words are accompanied by action. And it seems as if action from government comes more easily if they are persuaded of public and media concern. Europe has recently seen a remarkable flexing of people power muscles. Lorry drivers, farmers, taxi drivers took to the streets and blockaded fuel refineries, demanding that their various governments lower fuel tax. The words "crisis" and "government" or "country" combined with "brought to its knees" were common place in newspaper headlines. Mobilisation it seems is possible. October 17th is the United Nations sponsored World Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty, recently recognised by the British Government. Now what would be the result if just some of those newspaper inches and public interest was invested in this day?
