It is indeed difficult for a school administration to suggest that a parent is suffering from Munchausen by proxy. And this is not saying that we should go looking for this syndrome in parents of all children who seem to be frequently ill and missing school. As with everything else, we simply need to be cautious and examine all possibilities before drawing conclusions and acting on these conclusions. It reminds us of two specific factors in dealing with Special Education- 1) to include observations and data from a wide variety of persons and sources and 2) to extend observations and testing over a long enough period of time for results to be consistent.
