New Years' Resolutions

Dec 25, 2001 - © Valerie Botbyl

a substitution of one healthy snack for chips or something. I hope you can see my point but use your imagination.

A new year is a new chance and more importantly we need to understand that every day is a new chance. If you want your young people,(the ones you made and their peer group) to understand these things, talk about them. Mention some of your goals over the next few weeks. Mention when you achieve a goal. Take writing, for instance, If your goal is to write eight articles in January, keep your young people posted. Let them know when you've finished number three or five and when you have the eighth one done. If your goal is to get your house in order, break it down by rooms. Let the young people know about your goal and make a big deal about accomplishing the tasks. Give yourself a reward for each step completed.

Young people need to see things happen. Involve them in some of your own goals if you can.
