Let's put the joy back in teaching and learningA Special Ed. teacher worries about the effect of the testing on these students. She recalls one student who became so frustrated when he was told he had to finish writing a paragraph in 20 minutes, when in fact his auditory and visual learning disabilities required that he have at least an hour. The student ended up in a group home when the frustration became too much for him to cope with. According to the article (and I believe this is true of many places around the globe) teachable moments, class discussions, hands-on learning, field trips, physical education, music, art and even recess have become fond memories of the good old days. There is no wonder that teachers and students are frustrated and often unhappy, and many students are turning off to school. Let's put back the joy in teaching and learning
