Days Resurrected? Before I begin, let me chastise NBC for again being ashamed of its' soap history when they did their anniversary special. It spent three hours praising shows, its' very short history with the Olympics, and even showcased some of their major mistakes, and yet, not a single real recognition of their long history of daytime television. Is ABC the only network that is proud of their daytime history? Ah, there seems to be so much hope for Days of Our Lives right now; seems is the operative word. As a long time fan of Days of Our Lives, I, like all the other fans want to see the show thrive again after the slow destruction of Salem's soul, started by James Reilly and finished off by Tom Langan. But unlike most fans, I'm not interested in instant gratification. Erasing the mistakes of the previous writers is a nice gesture, but not IMO, if done too fast. That can be just as bad in the long run. A list of my concerns begins with the story that got Langan fired in the first place, the John/Hope/baby switch/who's the daddy/sub-rape storyline, nicknamed for brevity the "Jope" story. Some misguided attempt to pair John and Hope began five years ago and by the time Corday and company decided to abort, the pair had been raped, conceived a child through that rape, lied about the paternity of that child who had been switched at birth in the first place. At the 11th hour, almost like an apology to the ticked off John/Marlena and Bo/Hope fans, news that John was not the father of Hope's baby broke out. Never mind, how and why that makes little sense, this is a chance to take the brief time Bo, like Hope, was brainwashed and rewrite it as the time her son was conceived. But not until after the complete and total destruction of Lexie, a dragged out paternity revelation and custody fight, and then, the repercussions of all that happened during the "Jope" storyline will be forgotten. I'm not so sure that is a good thing. Now while I'm more than happy to have this baby storyline over with, as angry as I was at the story, you simply can't erase bad history any more than you shouldn't erase good history. The fact that John was taken for this emotional ride as a father shouldn't just be a causality of a quick rewrite, as painful as recognizing that history may be.
