Emmy Rants, Raves, and did I mention Rants?

This was a night for *celebrating* daytime, wasn't it?

I, like any respectable soap fan, usually has a list of "robbed" actors when Emmy night is over (last year it was ATWT's Terri Conn, Jon Hensley, Colleen Zenk-Pinter, and Benjamin Hendrickson). But this year, while my personal faves didn't win this year (a measly one), I'm going to put myself out there and say of the people nominated, I don't think anyone was "robbed" tonight. There were other choices, but no obvious oversights. But that's just me, you can all voice your disagreement in email, the discussion board, and in the poll.

All right, it's time for the real low down:

I think we can all agree on this for starters, Bob Barker is a much better host than Kathie Lee is, right?

This has nothing to do with the soaps, but sorry, this bugs me. As much as I love him, LeVar Burton over Fred Rogers in his last year? Ugh!

And speaking of the non-soap categories, I'm really ticked that the children's and game show categories got so little respect from the audience. It looked absolutely pathetic to see these hard working producers and performers walking down the aisle to receive their Emmy and all the soap stars are just sitting there, looking bored to tears, waiting for the show to go back to them. It just reeked of ego!

Sorry, I'm not taking any potshots at the Olsen twins, it just ain't happening.

More mistakes then One Life to Live's live week - The most embarrassing moment was the tale of two Susans. I mean seriously, bad enough they played the wrong music, but to usher Susan Lucci out there without being 100% first, yeah, a little stupid. Meanwhile Melody should really learn all the names of the nominees before she thinks Josh's last name rhymes with "camel". And I've got to ask, what was with Hogan thanking ABC? Talk about a major mistake. As for the opening song, the big mistake was not showing the clips behind Luther. In fact, some camera angles had Luther and his backup singers blocking any conceivable shot of the clips. Sorry, people aren't watching for Luther.

I gotta say, the music video/best drama thing had mixed results to a rather stupid idea (and come on, Y&R had it easy picking a song). I never thought I would miss the "Who Gets the Gold?" rap where you saw clips and learned about the storylines that had gotten the show the nomination in the first place. Well, with all the musical entertainers this year, perhaps next year, soap veteran Usher should do it (I'm only partly serious).
