Something Positive

For my first column, I'm going to challenge myself to say one good thing about each of the soaps (not an easy feat given the current state of the genre). Each show has fans, so there must be something that keeps the show going. In fact, I think every few weeks or so, I will do this. It is a nice concise way to touch base with all of the soaps and see where they are going, to see if it is easier to find something good or even harder after a period of time.

And if there are any extra random comments I want to make I will, because, hey, it's my column :)

AMC: In the middle of this writing change, the most promising story lines, characters, and actors, have all suffered in the process. It leaves me only one (rather predictable) choice for something positive, Adam Chandler. Whether he's torpedoing his own marriage with Liza or giving surprisingly helpful advice to new mom Hayley, Adam is a hoot and never ceases to interest me.

ATWT: There are many things right with this show right now, but the recent Simon and Katie pairing sticks out in my mind. They ARE the genre's new all-purpose super couple. They have passion, romance, conflict, humor, and tenderness. They could join the circus and it would make absolute sense. They are each other's soul mate and perfect fit as the show has shown us by having them ACT like it instead of TELLING us.

B&B: The show's saving grace right now is Joe Mascolo. His character Massimo is definitely bringing some solely needed energy to a VERY static show in a VERY repetitive story line.

DAYS: Sorry, does not compute, there is no Days anymore :) It truly is difficult to think of one thing on Days that stops it from being an absolute waste of time. The only thing I can think of is that at least we still get to see the WAY underrated James Reynolds, Kevin Spritas, and Patrika Darbo once and awhile.

GH: You're gonna laugh because I DEFINITELY think the best thing about GH right now is Jax. A man I pretty much loathed most of his tenure (in part, because of his stupid name) and only began to enjoy when he was teamed up with Alexis, is the only interesting character on the show as of late. With his return, I actually have a smidgen of hope for the show.
