What's the Frequency?

in fact we were seeing a wealth of different characters each day, but because it was always about the same thing. And then there is the fact that while people adore watching Bianca, her litany of pain and suffering over the last two years or so is the reason so many tuned out in the first place. Meanwhile One Life to Live's half of the baby story does center on a character that has turned sour for most fans, but the story is not the center of the show. Plenty of other stuff, good and bad is going on. Plenty of other emotions, levels of pain and joy abound in Llanview. To think you can have a light moment with David and Dorian on the same day Blair comes unglued to Viki about Todd's return shows that the mood is not stagnate. There is enough there to pick and choose.

Oh sure, some stories, romances, and characters that are constantly on bug us because they are such duds. But that is really a whole other issue that has to do with writers' and producers' inability to realize when something a turkey and their incessant need to push harder when something isn't working. To be fair though, I suppose that is because you really can't know ahead of time if a character can be salvaged. Of course that is something that even if we were in charge of which characters could stay or would get the most airtime, we couldn't prevent from happening either. And there have been times when sticking with a character has eventually paid off. I have a huge list of characters that I thought were not worthwhile until something turned them around. For example, I thought GL's Olivia was a dead end for the longest time. I was equally eager, despite Finola's talent to see both Devane sisters disappear from Pine Valley. Then when suddenly she was so beautifully used, I was upset to see she was leaving (and with such a poor exit to boot). Sometimes stories require patience from the writers and the viewers' part. I can understand it is hard, but abandoning an angle hastily can be just as foolish. Soaps have many, many times dumped stories and directions smack dab in the middle and while sometimes viewers were so bored or annoyed with said story they didn't blink and eye, and other times it stuck out
