It may just be the last days of soaps and everyone's getting desperate. Current P&G management has desperately tried many stunts to keep their soaps alive or to prevent a fan exodus; most of them have miserably failed. When AW characters came to Oakdale with producer Chris Goutman, it was met with negativity from both sets of soap fans. Why? Well, probably for no other reason than the sheer number of them in a soap that wasn't exactly doing so hot with the characters they already had. There was really, no place for Jake. There was a place for Cass, but he wasn't utilized because his AW bride wasn't part of the package. Vicky was quickly killed off and this hurt Jake even more. The transplantation had been one part damage control and one part unfinished contractual obligations. There was no agreement; this was not some creative decision. This was thrust upon As the World Turn's team with little choice. Unlike Sheila's move, these characters taking the train to Oakdale was not done with actual purpose, it was a business decision, it was a managerial choice and it showed. In time Jake began to fit in and then of course, he was killed off and the lasting of the AW influence on ATWT is that Donna and Marley cruelly took the kids away from Molly and her character has suffered ever since; thanks a lot guys. Of course soaps never actually actively work to make sure that they are consistent in that transplanted character's history and family. I didn't exactly see Skye freaking out over on GH over the fact that her mother was kidnapped and then left town back in Llanview. Heck, apparently now that Skye is so ensconced with the Quartermaine family, she doesn't even seem interested in her adoptive family back in Pine Valley. It is a huge undertaking to make sure that with a transplanted character from a soap still on the air, that you address what is happening to friends and family back in the town the character originated from. And you know what? They don't do it. Fortunately for ATWT, with AW defunct, they managed to get immediate
