On Life Support

of the spunk and fire I expected from Kelly. But it turned out apparently to just be left over from her days as Victoria Newman and was stamped out pretty quick. Granted, Tom is doing an excellent job with what she's been given as she has quickly made me buy Kelly's pathetic, scheming, plotting ploys. Still, seeing her basically pull a Sami Brady every other day is just one too many Sami Brady stunts in daytime.

Along with Kelly's return, they also gave us Paul, but just like Kelly, Paul needed to be recast. Who better for that than Heather's equally talented brother? One problem, we barely knew Paul besides his existence and only a talent like Tom could get us interested, which is necessary since Paul has no layers or personality of his own. We know what he does for a living, he's as greedy as his aunt, and he loves his sister who he didn't know most of his life, other than that, who cares? Paul reminds me of Rae, a character who was brought to the forefront simply to help cross promotion of ABC soaps with not much else thought out. Rae's story of searching for her mother not only went too long, last week I learned a host of people never followed her to the other soaps and never knew who her mother was. Any attempt after initially stretching a previously short-term character too thin never clicked with the audience. Paul was already in danger of that and unless a miracle happens and this crazy story helps develop his personality, he's basically toast no matter who plays him.

So let's see, a previously tolerable even sometimes lovable character who has gone through two recasts and is now an annoyance and her half brother that people barely know, and may not be willing to watch another soap to learn more about. These are the main characters involved in this story as they take, use, and abuse two women from another soap, one who has gone through enough in her short life. This is a good idea how? Well, according to everyone at ABC, the story is self-sustaining, it doesn't rely on looking at both soaps, but do they think are they kidding anyone? If that were true then they wouldn't have had the "event" segue without even closing credits for AMC in the hopes that viewers wouldn't notice that their soap
