Emmy Turns 30Anyone who read my column on the nominations knows how ticked I was about the nominees. But I was still looking forward to the show because it was expanded to three hours and there was actually a chance to really honor daytime, soaps and all. My only real worry besides the ABC over promotion was ABC wins. I haven't been able to shake the word "fixed" from my vocabulary since the nominations. Now I'm not actually accusing anyone of fixing the Emmys mind you, but man, I can't be the only one who finds all of those nominations for four soaps that are, at best, going through rough times, off. On the bright side, ABC sure didn't make the mistake CBS made last year, they promoted the heck out of their soaps. Although lord knows if viewers knew the circumstances behind Antonio and Keri's breakup on One Life to Live, that ad wouldn't have been so intriguing. But enough of that, let's discuss the actually ceremony. First, I want to list a few random thoughts that came to me while watching the show... -- I know it is nice for the fans, but if they are going to be allowed to attend the ceremony they have got to shut up! -- Why did people laugh when Wayne paid tribute to Mr. Hooper? -- I couldn't help it, the second I heard in the Y&R clip reel Christine wailing she was raped I chimed in, "twice". -- Is that the only time Jennifer and John Aniston have been on TV together? He's the only member of Days of Our Lives not to do a cameo on Friends. -- A Baby Story winning seems appropriate since it has covered the birth of two of As the World Turns' actresses' deliveries. -- Did Brian Gaskill once date Vanessa Marcil or something? What was with the clear bitterness towards Vanessa over Kelly's loss? Was it just about being loyal to a costar or something else? I happen to agree with him, but I know what my beef is with Vanessa Marcil, I'm not sure what his is. -- I agree with Kirsten Storms, you've gotta love the Disney Channel. Was I the only yelling at the screen "thank your mother" to the tongue-tied Shia LaBeouf? And by the way, go see Shia in the movie Holes. -- While showing clips of the craft Emmys, I'm really glad they showed the writers of "Forever Near" dedicating the song and the award to Josh Ryan Evans. But then I wanted to yell at the screen at the Emmy winning set decorator of AMC why on earth there are only folding chairs in the Fusion office.
