Escape to Julian

I still remember the first time that we went to Julian, California. Our son was six months old at the time. It was a beautiful winter day, with cool crisp air that smelled unbelievably fresh.

We stayed in the famous Julian Bed and Breakfast Inn. The innkeeper gave us a room that had an adjoining room, just big enough for our son. There were no televisions or radios in the inn, so when the town closed down, around nine p.m., we would sit in the lobby playing board games with the other guests, or read a book. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever had.

During the day, we would visit an old fashioned soda fountain, sample famous apple pies, picnic on the nearby lake, ride down main street on a beautiful horse-drawn carriage, and take an hour long tour of the gold mine.

There are many things to do in Julian, such as bird watch, fish, horseback ride, hike, taste wine in nearby wineries, and shop.

Julian has a self-walking tour. A map, from the chamber of commerce, will walk you through the history of the town.

Visit an old 1914 two-cell jail on the corner of C and Fourth street or visit the Julian Pioneer Cemetery where most of the pioneers of this great town are buried.

Would you like to see town photos of yesteryear? Then why not stop by the 100 year old Town Hall. Julian California is located near Sand Diego off Highway 79 or Highway 78. Julian Chamber of Commerce Phone (760) 765-1857 Fax (760) 765-2544 P.O. Box 1866, Julian CA 92036 http://julianca.com
