Okay, it’s not in Southern California, but I was browsing the internet one night and came across a very enchanting town. Ferndale is known as the Victorian Village. It has been around since the 1800’s and has remained virtually unchanged. It’s a place of natural wonder, as you stroll this town, you will feel as though you have stepped back in history. The entire town has even been designated a State Historical Landmark (#883).

Want a real feel for the scenery? Why not stay in a real live Victorian Inn? It was built in 1890 with 16 and 14 foot ceilings. Rooms average $85-$150 per night. 400 Ocean Ave. PO Box 96 Ferndale, CA 95536 707-786-4949

Would you prefer a Bed and Breakfast establishment? Why not stay at one that was built in 1854 by the town’s founder, for his bride? 703 Main Street Ferndale, CA 95536 1-800-557-SHAW

So what can you find in this historic town, besides a ton of history? It depends on the time of year you plan to visit.

In April, you will be in time for their annual Spring Concert.

In May, you can attend their Memorial Day Parade, as well as their Cinco De Mayo celebration.

In June, they have an annual Scandinavian Mid-Summer Festival.

In September, you can attend their annual Home Tour Fundraiser for the Ferndale Museum by stepping inside some of the towns, loveliest, and quite possibly oldest homes.

In December, they have an annual Christmas Lighted Tractor Parade, as well as the Lighting of America’s tallest Christmas Tree.

And as with any tourist attraction, their are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you busy.
