Amtrak and the Jones Family Mini-Farm

Take your children down memory lane... to a traditional Circa 1895 barnyard. That's right the barnyard is over one hundred years old! At one time, this farm, located in San Juan Capistrano, was part of the 2,500 acre Mexican Rancho.

The Amtrak Train Depot is just across the street, so you could make an adventure out of it by purchasing tickets on the Amtrak (http://amtrak.com/index5.html). Haven't your kids ever wanted to ride the train?

Think of the excitement on your children's faces when you tell them they get to ride a train. Once you stop, get off to stretch your legs and surprise them with a pony ride. Then head on over to the restaurant, located in the depot, for a nice meal before you head back home.

So what does an experience such as this cost?

Parking: Free for the first three hours

Barn: Pet goats, bunnies, and guinea pigs for $1 per person. Children under two are free. Want to feed the animals? A basket of carrots or a cone feed costs $1 each

Pony Rides: Depending on the laps around the trail, your child can ride for $1 for one lap or $5 for four laps.

Hay Rides: Just $2 per person

Souvenir Photos: $3 each

Better yet, why not order the Pony Pack: For $6.50 you will receive 1 barn entrance, a 2 lap pony ride, 1 basket of carrots, and 1 souvenir photo. That's a savings of $1.50!

Amtrak has many fees, depending on the area you are traveling from, it can be as little as $19 one way for coach and up into the hundreds of dollars.

When I lived in Bellflower, I used to take my kids to ride the ponies every week. They had such a blast petting the barn animals and trotting along on the ponies. They are memories that will last a lifetime.
