August

Some plants, like lupins and bleeding heart, may collapse in a heap after blooming. Take the lupin seeds and cut down the plant. Shrubs may have shot out a sudden long branch for no good reason. If you don't want it, remove it so the bush retains its neat shape. A small garden can quickly look messy if these housekeeping tasks aren't done. Luckily it doesn't take long to spiffy the place up. As a reward, take yourself to your favourite local garden centre to look for replacement plants for those bare patches that seem to multiply at this time. Lots of garden centres have sales in August to get rid of remaining stock and you can likely pick up some bargains in bright and cheerful filler plants. Go ahead. You deserve it.
