Friends may offer an alternative. However, keep in mind that someone who visits once in a while might not enjoy living with your bird day after day. It takes a special person to own a bird. The point of this isn't to make you feel down or to worry. The point is to get people to talk. Sure, the topic may be uncomfortable for a bit, but once everyone involved has discussed the situation, the worry will be over, and your bird will know that it is in good hands, no matter what happens.
