Canary Totems© Mary Wilson
When one thinks of totem animals, one thins of powerful creatures like the bear or wolf. Hardly does the humble canary ever come to be listed among such prestigious company. However, the canary
traces its mystical roots back to the mistrel brotherhood of the middle ages. The people of Hartz Mountain (yes, the same name as the current pet supply company) bred canaries and were linked to the bardic tradition in Nuremburg that was founded to teach the physical and spiritual power of sound. They found the canary a nice parallel.
Canaries also reflect an awakening of the heart and throat chakras (power centers within the body). This gives power to the words and emotions of a person with a canary totem, making them felt more strongly than they might otherwise have been felt. Canary people are also more sensitive to the atmosphere in their environment. Whether from pollutants or bad emotions, canary people should avoid such places at all costs. They thrive in fresh, clean air and surrounded by love. Many people love their humble pet canary. When you look beneath the surface, it's amazing what can be found.
