Home Hazards: The Living Room

In our final installment of the home hazards tour, we take a look at the living room. A lot of people, myself included, will bring their bird into the living room to watch television or to enjoy a movie. It's cute to sit in a big chair with the bird on the back, peering over your shoulder. Yet, here, as in other rooms of our homes, danger lurks. The worst danger in our living rooms has to be the decorations. Not only do you have shelves/furniture, which might contain spaces behind which our birds could crawl, but there are curtains in which to be caught. Upholstery also offers the same snares as do curtains and table covers. There's eating inappropriate things, should your bird decide to share a meal, and there's the danger from open doors. If your home is a busy home, the living room may not be the best place for your birds to spend time. It is essential that all members of the household know about bird safety and follow those rules. The living room is also a place to educate guests about the bird. Visitors may receive a first-hand edition on the care of birds, if your pet resides in the living room. If not, then this room can be a neutral territory for visitors to meet your bird. Either way, visitors can be a hazard to your bird if they do not follow your advice and common sense. We've come to the end of the tour of our homes. I hope this has been an informative series of articles for you.
