Sometimes your small business is not going to do so well and even when it does well, there are a lot of disadvantages.
First, there are the work hours. There are likely to be a lot of them and many will be late at night or on weekends. Sometimes, when you're working on a fixed-price job and it's not working, you're working for peanuts and you ask yourself, why are you doing this? Then there's the insecurity. Every month the bills pile up and you manage to pay them without knowing whether you'll have enough to pay next month's. You're always looking for new business and you're always running after people to pay you. Finally, you can't just do one thing and get good at it. You have to do everything and you've had no training in most of these things. So, when you've fixed the computer, done the accounting, purchased office supplies and cleaned the office, you might actually get to do what makes the money. Yes, a nice job in an office, a regular pay check, benefits - it starts to sound very attractive. When this kind of thinking creeps up on you, go to the Disgruntled site to remind you why you left that job in the first place. Ah yes, but these stories of disgruntled employees don't apply - you would be management: company car, expense account, bonuses... In that case go to this part of the Disgruntled site to remind you why you didn't want to be a manager any more. At least, as a small business owner, you've got something to show for your struggles - none of the "Disgruntled" people do.
