In the north of Slovakia there is the smallest region of my country, where I was born, called Kysuce. The center of this region is the city Cadca, 34 km north of Zilina. It is situated at the boundary of the highlands Turzovska vrchovina, Javorniky, Kysucka vrchovina and Kysucke Beskydy. The town has an excellent position in terms of transport, for example the main railway track from Budapest (Hungary), through Bratislava, Zilina, Cadca, Ostrava (Czech Republic) to Krakow (Poland); and excellent conditions for development of tourism enabled by characteristic nature and folk architecture being attractive in terms of tourism.
You can get aware of the history and sights of the city and its vicinity at the Museum of Kysuce with several expositions. One of them is located in the Palarikov dom - House of Palarik - in Cadca. An exposition of earlier history of the Kysuce region is in the Renaissance manor house in Radola in the town district Kysucke Nove Mesto, 10 km north of Zilina.
In the village Nova Bystrica - Vychylovka there is the open-air Museum of the village Kysuce, presenting folk architecture, culture and the way of life in Kysuce region from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of 20th century. Constituent part of the exposition is a little historical forest railway proclaimed national legacy of culture. The eleven-kilometer long track of the former Kysuce - Orava forest railway leads from Vychylovka to Oravska Lesna. This museum is open from the beginning of April until the end of October every year.
The Art Gallery of Kysuce region displays visual arts of Kysuce. Tourists can find a huge collection of art work in the building of Mestsky Dom ( City House ) in Cadca and in Renaissance mansion in the village Oscadnica. There is also the Museum - Gallery of Toys in the Mansion House, the only one of its kind in Slovakia. Creative stays of visual artists are organized in the surrounding park in the summer.
Besides sightseeing tourist can spend their free time or holiday time by doing leisure activities. This region is very good for a variety of summer and winter sports. The village Oscadnica located 10 km east of Cadca belongs to the most desired resorts of summer and winter tourism. It is a picturesque olace with characteristic shepherd-like and isolated settlements. There are well marked forests trails for hiking and cyclo-hiking, running, a lot of mushrooms, bilberries, raspberries, strawberries and game in the forests. An ideal place to take active rest and to relax in clean nature. And also a very popular resort for skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
