Kysucke Nove Mesto and its history© Katarina Cadrova
Here I am back on SUITE101.com writing about Slovakia and its beauties. It has been a long time since I wrote last and there have been a lot of changes around my country, my town and me. The town of this week is my hometown - Kysucke Nove Mesto and its history.
KYSUCKE NOVE MESTO lies in the north of Slovakia on the west bank of the river Kysuca, in the valley between the mountains called Kysucka vrchovina and Javorniky, 7 miles from the city Zilina http://www.zilina.sk. It is a small town with ca 17 000 inhabitants and it is the only town in the area. It is surrounded by small villages e.g. Povina, Radola, Neslusa, Rudina, Oscadnica etc. The town was established in 1244 and it was first a settlement called „Jachatin". In 1325 it became a town Congesberh with the lord mayor Henrych. In 1332 the town roman-catholic parsonage was built near The Marian's Church; there is a cemetery where the most important people of the town history are buried e.g. the vicar Jan Lottner and Jan Posta. In 1904 a huge fire destroyed the town - The Marain's Church, the cemetery and the houses. People did not' have water to stub out the fire so they used the cabbage soup hidden in the church. The fire ruined 2 thirds of the town very badly. Afterwards the inhabitants rebuilt it again. In 1925 the electricity line was put into the town so people could use electric power in their houses and the streets as well. The town symbols are a flag and a protector. The town flag has three equal lines, two are green and the middle one is white. The protector of the town is Saint Jan Nepomucky and his statue was built in 1761 by the count Sunoga. Now it is situated in a small green park in the middle of the Square of Liberty. The historical buildings and houses have been rebuilt and redecorated e.g. the Town Hall, the Church of St.Jakub, the houses in the square, etc. Most of the buildings were sold to the private people who opened new shops and offices there. Nowadays the town has a lot of other important and official buildings. The most important facts and documents about the town history you can find in the museum of the Castle in the nearest village Radola (2 miles from the town center). Go To Page: 1
