Ghosts of Alaska

© Sandy McCollum

Imagine the history of this wonderful place, Alaska. For centuries, maybe even a millenia, there have been scores of Natives, trappers, explorers and travelers that lived and died here. Not to mention the gold rush and the epidemics of small pox and the hypothermia that many succumbed to, and then consider all the fishermen and seamen who died. This kind of death and history happens all over the world, but I live here, in the Great Northlands.

As a writer, I often take along my recorder so I don't have a bunch of paper notes, and then I can use both hands while I'm doing whatever, or taking an interview. Occassionally, something would turn up on the recordings that I didn't say, so I began purposely making recordings in our home and other places, just for the sole reason of picking up sounds we didn't make. I get lucky more often than not - I do it with photos, too, you should see some of them! Below you'll find just a small sampling of my EVP recordings collection. These are copyrighted recordings.

These were made with Windows Media Player, but they are in .WAV format, so any player you have on your pc should do the trick. Sound files are quite large, however, and they may take up to a minute to download into the player.

I always encourage everyone to scan files before downloading them. These files are clean, no viruses or nasty programs imbedded in them, but it's always better to be safe than sorry! Now, get your coffee and get comfy!

This one was taken at the haunted house on Creek Street - standing outside it, of course.

This recording was taken as Jess and I tried waving to get Mike's attention without making any noise... apparently someone was helping us. Like always, we heard nothing until we listened to the tape at home.

This one is saying something we can't understand, but sounds like "How would you..."(part of a sentence)

This one is a clear Sniff, as if someone has a cold. We hear this sniff all the time in the house, even without the recorder.

This recording sounds like a cough at first, but when slowed down it clearly states, "Ah, Bear!" and a couple more of those familiar sniffs. This one was recorded while we were sleeping in our bedroom, which has large windows that show views to two sides of the yard.
