Christmas, To Me

Nov 7, 2002 - © Sandy McCollum

So, what's a girl like me to do? What to celebrate?

First of all, I give gifts all year-round, I help people and volunteer, and offer donations of food, clothing, time and cash when we can. I don't hold back and help out only in Winter, though that's when people need help the most. I celebrate Spirit and have a close relationship with Him always, and not just during any certain season or day. I love my neighbors and try to love my enemies, too. I feel the intimate closeness, the joy of giving, and the tears of turmoil all year round. Then, when the holiday comes, I give thanks for this time to gather with family and those of like minds and we celebrate Togetherness. Our relationship with God is already intact. Holidays are really for us puny Humans anyway, or else God would come and be Parade Marshal.

It's still a special day for us, and something we look forward to. We share gifts to show our love and joy at having each other in our lives, when we have gifts to give, and when we don't, we still have a good time. We make and eat lots of great comfort food, keep family traditions alive, and we pray. We pray like we do on all other days - with feeling, commitment and strength of Love.

I'd like to take this opportunity now, to tell each and every one of you that I hope your holiday is filled with family, friends, food and Love. And, I hope your Christmas is as good as ours will be, full of a culmination of all that God has done for and given us on all the days of the years.

Good journeys!
