Mothers and Wives - a poem

Because we are
Mothers and Wives
We cry a few more tears

We all try harder
To be stronger
And hide our instinctive fears

We wait even longer
Our time is stretched
A month can seem to take years

We send more mail
And receive much less
But we keep on sending our cheers

We keep ourselves busy
Tax bodies and minds
Supporting our loved ones and peers

We stay off the phone
In hopes of a call
From a voice we've been waiting to hear

Then we get mail!
A photo, oh boy!
It's our loved one in war-time gear

They look so proud
A US Marine
And we wish even more they were near

But we can keep going
And going we will
Until the news is finally here

And we'll break out in dance
As they're coming home
And once again normal life rears

Good journeys!
