EXPERT TIPS: How to Ski those Short Turns Better!

Short radius turns can be both fun and exciting, they bring rhythm and flow to your skiing. They help you adapt to changing terrain. Improving your short radius turns can also act as a building block to other aspects or aspirations of your skiing, such as: moguls, steep and deep and those ever so famous and great looking powder 8's!

Here are some very important points to keep in mind as you strive to improve the efficiency of your short radius turns:

1.Keep your body facing in the direction you are traveling in.

2.Strong pole plants will help your upper body stability.

3.Turn from the hip (your femur turns in the hip socket).

4.Hold your edge through the turn with consistent smooth steering of your feet throughout the entire turn.

5.Your balance point throughout the turn should move from mid-foot to start the turn to just in front of your heel pad during the completion phase of the turn.

Remember that improvement comes with mileage, so get out there and Ski! Ski! Ski!

Cheers!
