Question #1: What is a shaped ski vs. a conventional ski?

Answer:

Shaped skis are shorter and have a bigger sweet spot than conventional skis. This makes them more forgiving, easier to ski, higher perfoming and a lot more fun and rewarding to ski on.

From 10 to 15cm shorter than a conventional ski. For example, if you normally ski on a conventional ski that is 200-205 centimetres, you would ski on a 190-centimetre shaped ski. It's important to realize that, with a shaped ski, you're not giving up any stability by going to a shorter length. You'll find that the skis will be stable and predictable and, more importantly, much more maneuverable and responsive, leading to a greater feeling of security. Security through performance results when you feel that the ski is part of you and responds to your movements and direction.

Question #6: There are so many different types and models of shaped skis on the market, how do I find the right one for me?

Yes! These new shaped skis are by far the most versatile skis that have ever been created. They carve easier than the most conventional racing skis and are flexible enough to allow for great skiing in bumps and soft snow. A bigger sweet spot means that if you're having an off day you can still have a great day.

Question #8: What about "fat" powder skis?

Answer:

The only time you want a "fat" powder ski would be if you were going helicopter skiimg and spending all your time in powder. Even the "fat" skis are becoming more and more shaped to enhance their performance. The new all-mountain-shaped skis actually ski very well in powder and variable snow. This is because they have added width to the skis, allowing them to float and plane in deep snow which makes them easier to turn and ski.
