Boot & Foot ProblemsTo: mjmwebpages@writeme.com Subject: boot problem Michael: I'm wondering if you can help me solve a couple of boot problems. Despite wearing only cotton socks, I develop an itchy blistering rash on my calves when I wear my boots. I don't like to tighten the tops of my boots so much that I can't flex, but the rubbing appears to be causing this uncomfortable irritation. Secondly, I often get blisters on the inside of my feet just below my ankle bones. My heels are narrow and my boots are tight there. I've also inserted a footbed to minimize movement, but I still blister. Any suggestions? Thanks Well Stacy two thoughts come to mind: (1) cotton socks may not be the answer, as they tend to make your feet sweat and the moister combined with the rubbing (as you indicated you to clamp the boot on so I figure there is some wiggle space) is likely what is causing the BLISTER RASH.... May I suggest that you look into a pair of polypropylene socks they wick the moister from your foot to the outer layer of the sock keeping your feet dry... any good outdoor equipment store will carry them and the run about $4.00 to $8.00 a pair. Now this will sound strange but it is an old ARMY trick that I learned doing 10 mile rucksack marches in basic training... before you put your socks on apply ANTIPERSPIRANT to the areas that normally get the BLISTER RASH... I know it sounds strange but it really works.... no moister very little chance of BLISTERS. (2) Despite your foot beds etc, it sounds like your boots are not a GOOD fit... I would look at either going to a PRO ski shop that has a PRO boot fitter and get them adjusted for the areas you find HOT SPOTS and last option get a new pair that FIT properly but again at a professional sporting good store where the salesperson knows what they are doing... i.e., fitting the boot to your FEET! Hope that helps! Cheers! Michael (the Ski Bum)
