We've had some nasty weather here recently. Thunder and windstorms. Floods and puddles. Just the kind of weather made for curling up with a good book. So I thought I'd take the time today to tell you about some fun reads.
On the mystery front, I've recently become acquainted with a great private investigator named Desiree Shapiro. She is the brainchild of author Selma Eichler.
With a name like Desiree, you might expect her to be your typical leggy and lithe sexpot. Well, she's not. She's a fiery red head (with the help of some Henna), five foot two inches, and on the far side of "pleasingly plump." She is a delightful character, with a postive and empowering attutufe. She's not afraid to chase killers down crowded Manhattan streets. She isn't ashamed of her size. She is one smart cookie, and one great cook. Mrs. Shapiro (she's a widow) has had her share of ostracism for her weight. So she takes extra care to be neat, and attractively dressed. People can call her fat if they want, but they can't call her fat and sloppy. She is a well rounded character, in every respect. She is smart, funny, loving and, even sexual.
